Manik Bhattacharya, an MLA from Nadia district and the ex-chairman of West Bengal Primary Education Board, was arrested for his alleged involvement in the scam.
A Supreme Court Bench of Justice Aniruddha Bose and Justice Vikram Nath, on Thursday, refused to interfere with Manik Bhattacharya's arrest in West Bengal SSC Recruitment Exam, and thereby dismissed the petitions on the same grounds. In the plea, TMC member Manik Bhattacharya challenged his arrest by ED for his alleged involvement in the scam.
Bhattacharya, an MLA from Nadia district and the ex-chairman of West Bengal Primary Education Board, was arrested for his alleged involvement in the scam. The Enforcement Directorate is investigating the said money laundering, and the alleged involvement in the School Service Commission (SSC) recruitment scam.
The counsels also sought permission for counsel access to the client, to which the Court asked them to approach the appropriate court,
Earlier, the Supreme Court, on Tuesday, had remarked that under normal circumstances, it would not be appropriate to straightaway direct the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to investigate in a recruitment related controversy.
Court held that such investigation may be ordered, when the allegations are so outrageous and the perpetrators of the alleged offences are so powerful that investigation by the state police would be ineffectual.
These observations were made by the division bench comprising Justices Aniruddha Bose and Vikram Nath in a challenge made to a single judge order of the Calcutta High Court directing investigation by the CBI into the allegations of irregularities in the recruitment process of assistant primary teachers.
The concerned recruitment took place through the Teachers Eligibility Test (TET) examination 2014 which was held in the year 2015.
