Supreme Court also took on record the affidavit filed by the State of Manipur on providing essentials to the people while adding that surviving grievances would be brought to the notice of the local administration and the court-appointed committee

Supreme Court today sought for a report from the State of Manipur on the action taken by it against the looting of arms during the days when violence in Manipur was amok.

"On recovery of looted arms, a status report shall be filed before this court, which shall be made available only to the court, as regards the sensitivity of the situation", ordered a bench comprising CJI DY Chandrachud, Justice JB Pardiwala and Justice Manoj Misra.

A further direction has been issued to the Home Secretary to interact with the three-judge committee constituted by the Supreme Court, for finalising the names of experts, within three days.

"State of Manipur shall also file a report on the steps taken to upgrade the victims compensation scheme. We will keep this after two weeks now", the bench has added.

At the outset today, Solicitor General Tushar Mehta informed the bench that the issued raised before the Court on last Friday, about shortage of food due to blockage of roads and an outbreak of chicken pox and measles, were in fact false.

"Only once case of chicken pox was reported that too long back...this created a panic, therefore we are little more concerned..", SG Mehta added while submitting a comprehensive affidavit before the Court.

After a thorough deliberation, CJI Chandrachud ordered that if any further grievance existed, it should be brought to notice of the local administration and the court appointed committee.

On Friday, a bench of CJI DY Chandrachud and Justice JB Pardiwala had directed the Central and State government to ensure supply of food, medicines and other basic necessities.

These directions came to be issued by the top court after Senior Advocate Meenakshi Arora, appearing for the three judges' committee constituted by the court to deal with humanitarian aspects informed the bench about an outbreak of measles and chicken pox in some relief camps.

Recently, the committee consisting of former women High Court judges, namely, Justice Gita Mittal, Justice Shalini Joshi and Justice Asha Menon, formed by the Supreme Court of India to look into diverse aspects of humanitarian nature such as rehabilitation, restoration etc in violence-stricken Manipur had submitted three reports before it.

On August 7, the top court had appointed said committee, headed by Justice Mittal to look into aspects like relief, remedial measures, rehabilitation, restoration of homes and religious places etc.

Court had further appointed former IPS officer, Dattatray Padsalgikar, who has wide experience to oversee the investigation by CBI.
