Synopsis

CJI Chandrachud went on to tell the lawyer before him that he was in charge of the court's procedure and had been in the judiciary for over 24 years now

The Chief Justice of India today was forced to direct his staff to call the security to have an Advocate removed from court.

This happened after Advocate Mathews J Nedumpura interjected the Supreme Court's proceedings while the CJI posed a question to Senior Advocate Hooda, who was submitting his rejoinder submissions in the NEET hearing.

"You will not say anything. You will not speak to the gallery, I am incharge of my courtroom..you just keep quiet now..", a visibly miffed CJI said.

On Nedumpara calling the CJI to be unfair, Justice Chandrachud said that he would now have to issue something which would be very unpleasant.

"I am in charge of the procedure of this court and I have seen the judiciary for the last 24 years...", the CJI added.

When Nedumpara responded saying that he had seen courts since 1979, Solicitor General Tushar Mehta told the bench that his behavior was contemptuous.

In the beginning of this whole episode, as the CJI did not allow Nedumpara to answer to a query put to another lawyer, he said, "I am the senior most of all the lawyers appearing before this court..when I wanted to speak, the Honorable Chief Justice prevented me from speaking..".

"He (Hooda) is arguing, you will not interrupt him..You will not answer my question", the CJI said in response.

When Nedumpara did not stop, the CJI said, "You please sit down, I will have to have you removed from the court. I am warning you, you please sit down".

"Your lordships have tried every best not to allow me to speak..I was not allowed to speak", Nedumpara retorted.
