The Supreme Court on Monday slammed the Punjab Government over the issue of rising sales of fake liquor. Court said, "This is very serious. Youth will be finished."

A bench of Justice MR Shah and Justice CT Ravikumar directed the Punjab Government to file an affidavit informing the bench about the steps taken to curb the growing menace. The bench also took note of the fact that 35,000 FIRs have been registered relating to the issue in the last 2 years.

The Court said that stringent actions are required to be taken by the state government. The bench said that the poor people suffer in this situation and not the people who drink expensive branded liquor for fun.

The petition raising the issue sought direction from the court to the state government to give compensation to the kins of the victims who died after drinking such liquor.

To which the bench said that this has to be looked at from the other angle as well as to who asked them to drink such liquor. "Why will a common man's money be used to pay for this," the bench added.

Court while directing the state to file a response, asked the government to use the money seized from the raids conducted for public awareness campaigns.
