After 32 years, a POCSO Court in Ajmer has convicted six individuals in a sex scandal case, sentencing them to life imprisonment.

Special Judge Ranjan Singh of the Special Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Court also imposed a fine of Rs. 5 lakhs on each of the six convicted persons.

The POCSO court convicted Saleem Chishti, Nafees Chishti, Naseem alias Tarzan, Iqbal Bhati, Sohail Gani, and Sayed Zameer Hussain in the Ajmer sex scandal case.

The scandal, which came to light in 1992, involved the blackmail and sexual abuse of hundreds of college girls aged between 11 and 20. The case also implicated powerful and politically connected individuals.

The gang members took photographs of the college-going girls and used them to blackmail the victims into visiting their farmhouses, where they were forced to bring their friends as well. All the girls who were taken to the farmhouses were sexually assaulted.

Approximately 100 girls were victimized after their pictures were circulated and they were blackmailed.

In addition to the six convicted individuals, 18 others were also on trial in connection with the Ajmer sex scandal. However, the trial of these six was conducted separately.

In 1998, the Sessions Court sentenced eight men to life imprisonment for their involvement in the scandal. However, in 2002, the Rajasthan High Court acquitted four of them. In 2003, the Supreme Court further reduced the sentences of the remaining four individuals to 10 years of imprisonment.
