Calcutta High Court directs DM, Purba Medinipur to enquire into mismanagement of funds of MGNREGA

The Calcutta High Court Bench of Chief Justice Prakash Srivastava and Justice Rajarshi Bharadwaj directed the District Magistrate (DM) of Purba Medinipur to conduct an enquiry into complaints alleging mismanagement of funds in Pradhan Mantri Awaas Yojana and also the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA) scheme. 

The Counsel for the petitioner submitted that funds have not only been misappropriated but payments have been shown to be dispensed to those who are dead or those who are in custody. He has submitted that the petitioners have already filed the detailed representation dated 22nd of November, 2021 before the District Magistrate, Purba Medinipur but so far no action has been taken.

The Court disposed off the petition directing the District Magistrate, Purba Medinipur to duly consider the petitioners’ representation in accordance with law and conduct enquiry after giving opportunity of hearing to all the
concerned parties and take an appropriate decision in accordance with law as expeditiously as possible preferably within a period of three months.
