The Chief Justice of India NV Ramana said that while addressing an event said that unless the legal framework is drastically altered to make the justice delivery mechanism people friendly, we will not be able to achieve this goal.

CJI Ramana at the Odisha State Legal Services said that, "I want to be addressed through Indianisation."

"It is general understanding of the people that it is the court’s responsibility to make laws. This notion has to be dispelled. This is where the role of other organs of the state, i.e. the Legislature and the Executive assumes great significance," CJI Ramana added.

CJI Ramana had been found raising the same issue several times in the near past.

Earlier, CJI Ramana during his address at an event organised by the Karnataka State Bar Council to pay tributes to Late Mr. Justice Mohan M Shantanagouda said, "Very often our justice delivery poses multiple barriers for the common people. The working and the style of Courts do not sit well with the complexities of India."

Today, he further added that the Legislature needs to revisit the laws and reform them to suit the needs of time and people.

CJI Ramana also emphasised that our laws must match with our practical realities. The executive has to match these efforts by way of simplifying the corresponding rules, he added.
