A Delhi Court has issued summons and notice of injunction to filmmaker Leena Manimekalai on a suit seeking to restrain her from depicting Hindu goddess Kaali smoking a cigarette.

The plaintiffs had filed a suit for permanent and mandatory injunction against the defendants, stating that the film had depicted the goddess Kaali in "a very uncalled way in poster and promo video of their upcoming movie 'Kaali' ". They had also contended that the poster of the film depicts the Hindu goddess smoking a cigarette which not only hurts the religious sentiments of common Hindus but is also against basic morality and decency.

The Plaintiffs sought an injunction to restrain the defendants from depicting Kaali in the way the filmmaker have sought to show the goddess.

However, Justice Abhishek Kumar of Tis Hazari Courts said that the defendants needed to be heard before passing any orders against them. Therefore the matter has been listed for further hearing on August 6.

Summons and notice have also been issued to Manimekalai's company, Touring Talkies Media Private Limited.
