"Disruption of proceedings clearly amounts to the contempt of the House": Vice President Venkaiah Naidu

Speaking at a lecture series earlier today, the Vice President of India M Venkaiah Naidu said over the issue of disruptions in the floor of the Parliament that, "The disruptions have serious implications and are not acceptable."

He was addressing a lecture series organized to give a tribute to Jurist and MP, Ram Jethmalani, over the question, 'Disruption of Parliamentary Proceedings is an MP's privilege and/or a facet of parliamentary democracy?' Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu said, "Disruption of parliament and legislature is a cause of concern and there is need for houses is to make laws and ensure accountability of executive to the legislature."

Naidu further mentioned that there is low productivity at the Parliamentary Houses due to disruptions. "Rajya Sabha has recorded lowest evert productivity due to these disruptions," VP Naidu added.

VP Naidu further said, "I urge upon all the stakeholders including all political parties under the executive to introspect and commit themselves to do the needful to put an end to the unsavory sort of disruptions in the legislature so as to enhance the quality and dignity of the parliamentary democracy by resorting to the credibility of its organs, this is my appeal to the people."
