Synopsis

Malbros International, controlled by Deep Malhotra, Gautam Malhotra, and their family, operates as part of the Oasis Group of companies.

The Enforcement Directorate (ED), on Tuesday, raided multiple premises, including Delhi, Punjab, and Madhya Pradesh, of a liquor company Malbros International Private Limited, and its associated entities over water contamination allegations.

Per ED, the company reportedly polluted soil and groundwater in the vicinity of its factory located in Zira tehsil of Punjab's Ferozepur district. The contamination arose from the improper disposal of industrial effluents through borewells, which impacted the groundwater within a four-kilometer radius of the factory. This environmental degradation prompted prolonged protests by local farmers.

The matter gained attention in Parliament during ‘zero hour’, prompting the Central Pollution Control Board and the Central Ground Water Board to conduct field inspections at the Zira facility. The resulting inspection report highlighted multiple environmental norm violations by the factory. Consequently, the Punjab Pollution Control Board filed a criminal complaint against Malbros International for contraventions of various provisions under the Water (Prevention and Control of Pollution) Act, 1974.
