Himachal Pradesh High Court asks Animal Welfare Board to suggest practical solutions for monkey, stray dog menace

Synopsis

The High Court had in June, this year took suo motu cognisance of the monkey menace and sought steps to control it. A plea related to stray dog menace was also filed before the court.

The Himachal Pradesh High Court has asked Animal Welfare Board of India to give practical suggestions to control monkey and stray dogs menace, which have been causing hardships to the citizens.

A bench of Chief Justice M S Ramachandra Rao and Justice Ajay Mohan Goel was hearing a matter registered as Court on its own motion Vs State of HP and others.

Upon submissions made by the counsel, the bench directed, "Animal Welfare Board of India under the control of Ministry of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying (Department of Animal Husbandry and Dairying), shall give practical suggestions to the State of Himachal Pradesh regarding control of the Monkey menace and also the stray dogs menace, because these two have been lingering on in the State for long and causing hardships to the citizens of the State," the bench said.

The Advocate General, on his part, assured the court that the State and Municipal Corporation, Shimla would consult with the Agriculture University, Palampur, which has a veterinary Branch and receive their inputs for controlling the monkey menace and the stray dogs menace will be taken from them also.

The court directed that report of Municipal Corporation, Shimla should be supplied to all other counsel.

It fixed the matter for further hearing on September 18.
