Calcutta High Court on Monday directed the Kolkata Police to submit a report on the matter regarding 600-700 trespassers entering the premises of the Kolkata Zoological Garden.

Petitioner Rakesh Singh, a leader of the employee trade union at the zoo, claimed that around 600 to 700 outsiders having allegiance to a rival group illegally entered the zoo premises on January 24 to forcibly take over the employees' trade union.

Singh therefore prayed for a direction for bringing back normalcy and for trespassers to be evicted from the zoo premises.

Justice Rajasekhar Mantha, who was presiding over the matter sought a report from the police as to steps taken pursuant to the complaints received, from the petitioner, the Zoo Management on the adjourned date. The Police was further directed to examine CCTV cameras and prepare a separate report for the same.

The Court further ordered the Director of Zoo, to inspect the entire Zoo premises and submit a report and directed that the reports and comments of the Zoo Authority shall be based not only on the footage received from the police but also from the footage of their own sources as available.
