Odisha Court drops espionage charges against DRDO employees accused of leaking secret information to Pakistani ISI agent

A court in Odisha has dropped espionage charges against five Defence Research and Development Organization (DRDO) employees due to a lack of supporting documentation. It has been alleged that the employees were involved in leaking secret defense information to a Pakistani agent.

The five DRDO employees were accused under sections 3, 4, and 5 of the Official Secrets Act. The accused include Basanta Behera, Hemanta Mistri, Sachin Kumar, Tapas Ranjan Nayak and Sk Musafir.

Additional District Judge (ADJ)-3 Bibhasat Goutam has pronounced the decision in a case wherein the allegations were that the accused leaked classified defense secrets to foreign agents.

A case under sections 120-B/121-A/34 of IPC-R/W and sections 3, 4, and 5 of the Official Secrets Act was registered against the accused by Balasore police.

Earlier, the Court had asked the Government to submit supporting documents. The Government was unable to produce the documents despite a period of six months passed. Later, the court dropped the changers against the accused.
