Tajinder Bagga: Punjab & Haryana High Court to hear State of Punjab’s plea seeking release of police officers on May 10

The Punjab & Haryana High Court on Saturday deferred hearing in the plea by the state government, seeking release of Punjab police officers who went to arrest Tajinder Singh Bagga.

The High Court has posted the matter for May 10 as the case was supposed to be listed before another bench.

According to ANI, Additional Solicitor General Satya Pal Jain appearing for the Delhi Police submitted that yesterday, in view of & in execution of search warrants issued by competent court of law in Delhi, we had taken Bagga into our custody&taken him to Delhi. His medical examination was conducted he was produced in court. The court released him & allowed him to go home.

The High Court was hearing a plea by State of Punjab seeking release of police officers, who went to arrest Tajinder Pal Singh Bagga from Haryana. A Habeas Corpus petition was heard on May 5, 2022, seeking directions for their release before a bench of Justice Batra.

It has been alleged that when the Punjab Police was going to produce Bagga before the Magistrate, Haryana Police arrived midway and brought them to Kurukshetra, wher e Bagga was handed over to Delhi Police and 12 Punjab Police officers were allegedly illegally detained.

Bagga has been accused of allegedly threatening the Chief Minister of Delhi Arvind Kejriwal.

Yesterday, Jain had informed the Court that no official of Punjab Police has been detained at Police Station Janakpuri, Delhi (West).

Whereas, at the instance of Preetpal Singh Bagga, father of Tejinder Pal Singh Bagga, search warrant to effect appearance of Bagga was obtained from Metropolitan Magistrate, Delhi, and further wireless message was flashed to intercept and trace Bagga. He further submits that on receipt of information from Kurukshetra Police, Bagga was rescued by Delhi Police with the assistance of Kurukshetra Police and was being brought back to Delhi to produce him in the Court concerned at Delhi.

In addition to this, Advocate BR Mahajan appearing for the Haryana Police had submitted that the Punjab Police officials as alleged as detenues have not been detained by the Kurukshetra Police in any manner and those police officials on their own were sitting in the room of SHO, Police Station Sadar, Kurukshetra, and they were being requested to proceed to their destination as no further action was required in the matter.
