Delhi Court Rejects Anticipatory Bail Plea Of Wrestler Sushil Kumar, Accused Of Criminal Charges Against A Junior Wrestler

A Delhi Court rejected Anticipatory Bail Plea of Wrestler Sushil Kumar, charged for the offence of culpable homicide of 23 year old Sagar Rana, training at Chhatrasal Stadium, Delhi.

ASJ Jagdish Kumar, Rohini Court, while rejecting the application observed that charges against the accused are of a serious nature and the FIR reveals a prima facie case against the accused.

Senior Advocate Siddharth Luthra and Advocate RS Jakhar, represented the petitioner.

Addl. Public Prosecutor, Anil Shrivastava appeared for the State.

It was the submission of Mr. Luthra that the prosecuting authorities could not have seized the passport of the petitioner and that no injuries, in the entire course of event, was attributable to the accused.

Reliance was further placed on High Powered Committee Report on Decongestion of Jails, submitting arguments for Anticipatory Bail.

Advocate Jakhar made a brief submission stating, “There is a deliberate attempt on the end of Senior Officials or someone else to implicate me in it.”

Addl. PP, Mr. Shrivastava argued that the video procured clearly shows the presence of Sushil Kumar at the place of incident, armed with “danda” and the FIR in the matter was registered before the death actually took place, discarding all possibility of implicating the accused.

It is alleged that wrestler Sushil Kumar engaged in an argument, followed by an armed fight with the deceased on the intervening night of May 4 and May 5, 2021.

While Sagar Rana succumbed to death on May 5, his friends sustained grave injuries.

Delhi Police issued a Look Out Circular against the accused on May 10 and had announced a reward of Rs 1 lakh on any information related to his whereabouts.

On Saturday, NBWs were issued against the Accused and nine others related to the present matter.
