Supreme Court today while hearing election petition of Okram Henry Singh
A Division Bench of Justice UU Lalit and Justice Ajay Rastogi, while hearing the matter today, said,
On May 6, 2021, A Full Bench of Justice UU Lalit, Justice Indira Banerjee and Justice KM Joseph, had passed the following interim directions in the matter:
- Having been sworn-in as a Member of the Legislative Assembly, respondent 1 shall be entitled to represent the electorate in the House and shall be entitled to participate in the debates.
- However, respondent 1 shall not be entitled to cast any vote on the floor of the House or in any committee of the House.
- He shall also not be entitled to draw any monetary benefits in respect of the office of Member of the Assembly.
Earlier, the High Court had declared Singh’s election from Wangkhei Assembly Constituency in Manipur, as null and void.
