Police registered a murder case after anesthesiologist Dr. Kiran Honannavar was found dead inside his Dharwad apartment, while his wife was questioned and their injured son was admitted to hospital

Bengaluru Police have launched a murder investigation after a 45-year-old anesthesiologist was found dead inside his apartment in Karnataka's Dharwad, while his eight-year-old son was discovered with stab injuries. The victim's wife, an ophthalmologist, is being questioned as investigators probe a suspected domestic dispute.

The deceased has been identified as Dr. Kiran Honannavar, an anesthesiologist at Chirayu Hospital. His wife, Dr. Priyanka, has been taken into custody for questioning, while their son is undergoing treatment at a private hospital.

According to Hubballi-Dharwad Police Commissioner N. Shashikumar, preliminary investigation suggests that no outsider entered the apartment, which is located in a highly secured residential complex.

Police said only Dr. Kiran, his wife and their son were inside the house when the incident is believed to have occurred.

The matter came to light after Dr. Kiran's relatives repeatedly failed to contact him. They were allegedly informed by his wife that he was resting and later that he had stepped out. When he remained unreachable until evening, family members visited the apartment and found him lying in a pool of blood. The couple's son was found in another room with stab injuries and was immediately shifted to a hospital.

A case has been registered at the Suburban Police Station, and investigators are examining all circumstances leading to the incident.

Police said the exact sequence of events remains unclear. The victim's body has been sent for post-mortem examination, and forensic evidence is being collected from the scene.

Commissioner Shashikumar stated that Dr. Priyanka is currently in a state of shock and has made inconsistent statements during questioning. Investigators are verifying her version of events and recording statements from both families to ascertain the motive behind the alleged crime.

Authorities have also ruled out any immediate indication of forced entry or involvement of outsiders. CCTV footage from the residential complex is being examined as part of the investigation.

While relatives have accused Dr. Priyanka of murdering her husband, the police have not confirmed her involvement or made any arrest. Officials have stated that the investigation is at a preliminary stage and that all angles, including a possible domestic dispute, are being examined.

Police have also not officially confirmed reports regarding the child's alleged mental health condition, stating that the investigation is ongoing and further details will emerge after the post-mortem report, forensic analysis and witness examination.
