A petition in the Calcutta High Court has been filed against West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee for allegedly using a religious forum for political gain by giving provocative speeches against the ruling party in the Centre while attending a religious congregation on the occasion of Eid-Ul-Fitr.
A Bhartiya Janta Party leader Nazia Elahi Khan has filed a Public Interest Litigation against Banerjee alleging that this year she entered the religious congregation against the strict legal principles of Islamic Jurisprudence that a Non-Muslim cannot enter the religious arena on the Solemn occasion of Eid Ki Namaz practiced on Eid-Ul-Fitr after the Holy month of Ramadan is over during which the entire Islamic Community shows their supreme spirit of sacrifice.
The plea seeks direction for the Government to furnish a report in the form of an affidavit regarding the legality of Banerjee's entry into the religious congregation of the Red Road Namaz during Eid Ki Namaz on the Holy and Solemn occasion of Eid-Ul-Fitr.
The plea has further sought direction prohibiting Banerjee from entering the religious congregation of Red Road Namaz on the occasion of Eid-Ul-Fitre in the subsequent years.
Additionally, it has sought direction to the State Government to ensure that no political speeches are given in a religious congregation in the future by Banerjee.
