The Indore bench of Madhya Pradesh High Court has issued a notice to the State government on a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) against the lack of Pradhan Mantri Jan Aushadhi Kendra in hospitals.

Justice Vivek Rusia and Justice Anil Verma ordered a reply from the state government on the PIL moved by Advocate Vinod Dwivedi.

According to Plea, Madhya Pradesh has only seven Jan Ausadhi centers in government hospitals, while Indore has none. There are 1027 PM Jan Aushadhi Kendras across the country.

The plea stated that the scheme to establish Jan Aushadhi Kendra in public and private hospitals across the country was launched a few years ago to provide better quality generic drugs to patients, and these centers have become very important for states like Madhya Pradesh, which has lagged in almost all major health mortality, institutional deliveries, contraceptive measures, and other measures outlined in the NITI Aayog report.

The plea further stated that more than half of the people in the state belonged to a scheduled caste or a scheduled tribe and people are forced to borrow money to get treatment in private hospitals because there are no cheaper options.

This is happening even though the country's constitution guarantees access to education, health care, and employment opportunities. The situation wreaked havoc on people during the state's pandemic, the plea added.
