The Chief Justice of India today laid the foundation stone of the new court buildings at Karkardooma, Shastri Park and Rohini.
Talking about the new structures, Justice DY Chandrachud said these GRIHA-rated buildings would be lush with greenery and have shaded facades, diffusion of natural sunlight inside the buildings, rain water harvesting among other environmental measures.
Adding that our infrastructure must reflect the reality we live in, i.e., Climate change, CJI expressed his delight to know that the new buildings will focus on heat island mitigation and reduce environmental footprint.
On the new court complexes enhancement of efficiency of the court and reducing the pendency, CJI said, "Courts are a repository of precedents and an accumulation of social histories. Judges apply the ‘present’ law, drawing upon the ‘past’ law to shape the ‘future’ law. Through their rulings, they bridge historical legal principles with contemporary issues, crafting the legal landscape for tomorrow."
While concluding, Justice Chandrachud reminisced how Karkardooma was the first court to be equipped as an e-Courts in 2010 and now it would have state of the art facilities which are environmentally conscious, justice oriented and accessible.
"I am hopeful that the new additions to the courts will embrace its rich legacy and create futuristic courts to enhance efficiency and uphold justice", he said while ending his address.
VK Saxena, Lieutenant Governor of Delhi; Atishi Singh, Minister PWD, Finance & Law, Government of NCT of Delhi; Justice Sanjiv Khanna and Justice Hima Kohli of the Supreme Court; Justice Manmohan, Acting Chief Justice of Delhi High Court and Justice Rajiv Shakdher of the Delhi High Court were present at the ceremony.
