Today, the bench observed that these institutes had changed into 'death chambers' who were 'jeopardizing the lives of aspirants' coming from various parts of the country
The Supreme court has today taken suo moto cognizance of the flooding incident at the basement of a coaching institute in Old Rajinder Nagar, New Delhi which led to the lives of a few students being lost.
A bench of Justices Surya Kant and Ujjal Bhuyan has issued notices to the Central and Delhi governments, seeking their responses.
Court has also directed Centre, AAP government, and the Municipal Corporation of Delhi to file their responses detailing the safety norms currently in place.
Recently, Delhi High Court, has also directed the Central Bureau of Investigation to investigate the deaths of three civil aspirants who were drowned after the casement of a coaching center was flooded.
In its previous order, high court had directed the commissioner of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi and the Deputy Commissioner of Police to appear in person.
Notably, students approached the High Court, seeking the establishment of a high-level committee to investigate the deaths of these civil aspirants.
The bench of Acting Chief Justice Manmohan and Justice Tushar Rao Gedela, while hearing the petition, expressed dismay over the government's actions, noting that the government was shifting blame for such incidents without any particular authority taking accountability.
