A Supreme Court bench headed by Chief Justice of India Justice NV Ramana and consisting of Justices Bopanna and Hima Kohli today granted 15 days parole to Rupam Pathak, a woman who murdered Raj Kishore Kesri, a four-time MLA from Purnea in Bihar. Kesri was stabbed to death by Pathak in an open assembly.

Pathak had sought for parole of 15 days to attend her daughter’s wedding. When the matter was called for hearing, ASG Raju appeared and said he had no objection to her being granted parole. Raju further submitted that he had verified that it was her daughter’s wedding.

Accordingly, court granted Pathak parole of 15 days, after which she has been directed to surrender.

A Special CBI court had in March 2012 convicted Pathak of Kesri’s murder and sentenced her to life imprisonment in 2012. Pathak, had in June 2010, filed a police case accusing Kesari of raping her in 2007. She later retracted that statement in court.

According to media sources, Pathak went back to court, declaring that she had withdrawn her case against Kesari under pressure from her in-laws and others. She did not state who the others might include.
