The Supreme Court of India has stayed the Punjab and Haryana High Court's order directing the road outside of Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann's residence to be opened for public use.
A bench of Justices Sanjiv Khanna and Dipankar Datta has stayed the order passed by the High Court dealing with a suo matter matter pertaining to traffic and infrastructure problems in Chandigarh.
Solicitor General Tushar Mehta, appearing for Chandigarh UT, joined in the submission made by the Punjab government and said, "This is playing with someone's life, intelligence reports on threats cannot be said to be figments of imagination..".
The Punjab AG also submitted about the recent increase in terrorism threats citing the death of Siddhu Moosewala.
High Court had ordered temporary opening of the road directing the Director General of Police and Senior Superintendent of Police, U.T., Chandigarh to formulate a traffic management plan as how to ease the traffic congestion.
Top Court today issued notice, returnable in week commencing September 2 while staying the direction for opening of the road to the CM's house, although proceedings in the writ petition are allowed to continue.
